Welcome to English class! I am truly honored to be your teacher this year. I know some of you might feel nervous about English, and that’s completely normal; you are not alone. My goal is to make our classroom a safe, welcoming space where you can grow, explore, and express yourself with confidence.
I believe that literacy is one of the most powerful tools you will ever have. The ability to read deeply, write clearly, and think critically will open doors for you in every part of your life – not just in school, but in your relationships, your goals, your dreams, and your future career. That’s why everything we do in this class is designed to strengthen your reading, writing, vocabulary, speaking, listening, and grammar skills in meaningful ways.
We will dive into short stories, novels, poetry, plays, music, and each other’s writing to understand the world around us and our place in it. You will write essays, reflections, and creative pieces, take notes, create thinking maps, and learn to use evidence to support your ideas. Most of our work will be done together in class, so I can support you every step of the way. Anything we don’t finish will become homework so you can keep building those skills outside of class too.
More than anything, I want you to leave this class knowing that your words matter. Your thoughts, your voice, and your writing have power. I am here to help you unlock that power so you can become a more empathetic, inclusive, and aware member of our community.
I can’t wait to learn with you this year. I believe in you, and I will do everything I can to help you succeed – not just in English class, but in all the goals you set for yourself now and in the future.
